Loughborough Beginners 2009

So the weekend started off with everyone dragging themselves out of bed dead early in the morning and making sure they packed towels (well done Selby.) Rob and Ben both forgot to bring hats to show they were experienced but this payed off with Rob receiving compliments on how genius it was so play in a helmet. Well done Rob. We settled in on the words most packed balcony and discussed the possibilities of being sponsored by shake and bake. This is something that i will start working on the second im done here. First game was against ourselves. A team dropped out so we played a pickup. Jesters on Jesters. We were doing pretty well and destroyed Jesters d. Thankfully they weren't very good and we were awesome so we came away with a win. The first of the Jesters season. Discosaurus got involved towards the end and we saw them off as well with some great running, solid catching and a pretty good d for the first game. Second game was against Monkey See/ Aber. We came into the game pretty chilled out and you can see from the videos that we didnt exactly come out all guns blazing. We got the draw but realistically we could have beaten them. Oh well. We went on to play Haze 2. Haze obviously are awesome and they didnt split up the teams in terms of skill so this was a game that we were going to have to fight hard for. We were extremely unlucky with some of the drops right in the end zone. Unlucky and not quite training on endzone play. We lost, but not badly and their captain Nimjo put us up in his lovely house. So all was well. Next up was ARU darkside. We lost and we really should have beaten them. Some bad cutting and line decisions rendered our O pretty useless and on D we were having to go up against a massive guy who was good in the air. They abused this and because of it they won. We went outside and went through a cutting system. It was very repetitive but was a scrambled attempt at bringing everything together. Switching to 1 handler, a first pair of cuts which went long and under and 2 people to back up the first cut if it failed and provide a dump. Our next game was a pick up but i didnt want it to be a mess around. So asked the experienced players from a few teams to come and play us. We played an experienced line with our new cutting system and did a lot better. They beat us by a few but it was clear that this worked a lot better than everything else we had been doing in the day. Our D could still use some tightening up but we were playing an experienced team. We went away from the last game a little annoyed knowing that if we had thought about it a little better than we might have won some of the games that we lost. Even that and a freezing cold shower didnt dampen our spirits though and we headed off to get booze and food. Shopping done we headed to Nimjos. After knocking on the wrong door of the wrong street we found him, dropped off our stuff and headed to SPOONS. crammed around a few tables and pretty much everyone got their burger on. Special mention goes to Jewfro for not managing to eat his burger. Man up. Back to Nimjos and its drinking time. All in the living room playing challenge and i have never. We all learnt a lot about each other: Simon can name a lot of countries but doesnt know when hes taken class A drugs. Jack and I share a bond and Jim has got arrested for fighting. As the sober club representative i thought it responsible to give Jack the title of night captain. We suited up into costume and headed for the union. "Guys you arnt allowed alcohol on the street...trust me, i do law" Jesters set off alcohol in hand and house key firmly in my pants. A car pulls up, we assume they are just some random chavs or locals. Jesters response: SHAKE AND BAKE!!!!!!!!! So they were the rozzers, the fuzz, and we shouted at them. How could we have made a worse impression? Stupid costumes, shouting, alcohol on the street. Greg asks them if they have a bottle opener. What an error. I as sober club captain sorted the whole issue out :s and we moved on. Union time, drinking time, dancing time and for some, shark time. You might have to ask some of the others for details as im a bit hazey (pun intended.)

BLACK HOLE OF MEMORY

Walking home time. Shirts came off, whips came out, it was ugly. We got back and packed in. With social sec, club captain and night captain sharing a bed it was a hot occasion. JTM on the kitchen floor and Selby munching away on milky buttons. Good times. We get up, costumes on still and slowly make our way back to the tournament.
BOOM, we beat TNT. Obviously. Everyone was working better with their cuts and throwing, things were looking up. Next up were disc doctors? Not sure, might be missing out a team somewhere. Either way, they showed up late, didnt give us the points we were meant to get and then clogged up the game. BAD spirit. Either way everyone played really hard. We went outside, spoke about an iso. We cracked this bad boy out against the rest of the teams and it seemed to work a lot better. Utilising some of our quick players and great cutters, it was awesome. UBU. We drew. It seems to be becoming a tradition. I was so impressed with everyone in this game. The iso was good, the cuts were good, the throwing was good. Everything came together. On D i dropped off the back in the hopes that their handler would do his thing and send it long. Everyone else picked up my slack in the middle amazingly and showed some real initiative. I cant remember the order but we went on to beat evo. They were little, jack got defensed by a little girl and wong molested their captain. all was well with the world. Last and maybe least was Phat Eds. Always fun to play them we went up 3 points at the beginning with our iso play again working really well. Somehow they then went on to score 9 points to convincingly beat us. However the individual efforts were amazing. Most of the errors were from experienced players and again they abused a player that could take down discs long. All in all it was a great learning experience for everyone and everyone improved. finishing 22nd out of 32 at the very least puts us out of the bottom category.

There was some real talent on the pitch. Id like to mention team superman and woman with their excellent cutting, fiona for easily being the best beginner woman there and jack for running so freaking hard. Kasper made some solid handling efforts and everyone put serious effort in. Rob stepped up with some awesome social sec-ing. Sexy calls, sexy handling and cheeky enthusiasm all weekend. Thanks to Ben for driving and lending a hand anywhere it was needed. Well done to all of you.
KEEP COMING TO TRAINING. Tournaments are on the horizon and Jesters need to show everyone that they are awesome.
