Second Team

University Midlands Open Indoor regional’s. Finished 7th.

God damn peer pooling.
This was a very frustrating weekend. It went wrong for a number of reasons, partly my fault and party bad luck with the games we played. This year the schedule was organised using peer pooling which means that good teams play good teams and second teams play second teams. Unfortunately it did not work in our favour this year. The main mistake we made was that we didn’t have a proper game plan and this was my fault. I based our game plan on individual players as opposed to having a slid team plan. I realise that this as stupid and have personally learnt a lot from it. This mistake meant that we spent a lot of time stuck on our endzone line with no up field options and our deep players getting spilt long (no matter how high a man can leap he is still only one man). This tournament taught me a lot and I promise this wont happen again next year. Rant over. Ish.

First day.
In our group we had Demons and Bears. After playing Bears, Demons came out strong and gave us a great game; they worked the disc around well and scored some good points on us. But we settled down and started playing properly to win what was a great start to the tournament. Bears however knew exactly how to find the holes in our D and how to break down our O with their zone. We got whooped. There was some good stuff to take from the game but all in all they were better than us. So we finished second in the group. To the crossovers! Annoyingly Haze weren’t playing very well in the morning and consequently dropped seed so we had to play them in a crossover. More annoyingly they decided to find form against us. A very close game with both teams not playing as well as they could have with silly drops on both sides (including mine). But as with the Jesters-Haze curse they found form when it mattered and took the game. Annoyingly again, because of this we had to play Blue who were looking hot and tall and strong. Another strong team that found the holes in our D and broke down our O effectively. End of day. We now couldn’t qualify.

Needless to say we got drunk (some more than others). We had fun on Saturday night with J1 and 2 coming together playing the ridiculous table game that made no sense and lasted for hours. Possibly the greatest drinking game ever invented. We then headed out to the most inappropriate game of grenades and sharks in history with near death experiences and injuries galore. Second day we won everything and proved that we defiantly should have qualified. Memorable events include crabs sitting on a guy, George throwing ridiculous stuff and lil-Chris being literally everywhere. Special mention to Gee, Super James and Sabbott who stepped up and all made a valuable contribution to the team.
Well-played and unlucky guys. Unfortunate result. Next year, next year!
MVP: George Hudson MIP: James Wright
