Jesters Ultimate
Copa de Crimbo 2007
An 8am meeting to head to a tournament is basically a lie-in, so we were all fresh and *definitely* wide awake when we combined at the Charles Wilson steps. PhD Ed heads off to mutilate some flies, promising to get up to Nottingham as soon as he can. We have, however, got lots of subs, so it's not as catastrophic as it otherwise could've been. Pile into the minibus and Si's car and we motor up the M1. Settle into one corner of the Sports Hall balcony, and get ready for the first game. Gez arrives.

Game 1 v Meat Pie: 2-7
We didn't actually get ready, and were mostly crap with lots of drops. They were a bit harsh on some calls, and we made a massive error in agreeing to play a 2:3 girls:guys ratio; meant that Millie and Steph were Iron-Woman-ing.

Game 2 v Flyght Club: 7-5
Woop. Couple of contested calls, but nothing dramatic. We took a lead and traded and then they got it back and then we got another to seal it.

Game 3 v Mwnci See: 5-1
Sweeeeet. They didn't have too much. Millie made a few calls, Gez made layouts, and Edd skied someone. Actually skied someone, despite being shorter than Johnny Five's circuits.

Game 4 v Danger! High Voltage: 3-5
Did really well against a team of guys all much more experienced and (mostly) taller than us, who ended up in the final. Zone D worked a treat; considering the level of handling ability we were playing, that they had to repeatedly go back and forth is testament to how well it was holding.

Finished third in pool. We've now gone into a crossover pool of 6 teams, two of which we've already played (the teams we lost to), and those scores are carried through. So we've got 3 games left, and have lost 2 of 2 so far.

Game 5 v Hops & Glory: 6-6
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Jasper (former Jester, a Masters student last year)'s team of ringers, and we held a lead on them at 6-4, then they got them back. But still, that was totally and utterly awesome.

Go home to the guy's house, which is in a really tidy and smart condition, clean walls and carpets and bedrooms and bathrooms. Decide to get a Chinese which came really quickly (while we were at The Alcohol & Bacon Shop) and disappeared... almost as quickly. Tried to find X Factor on TV, didn't succeed. Watched Family Guy on laptop. Watched Hot Fuzz. Was horrifically racist, mostly thanks to Family Guy. Sam, Ben, Richard and Tom went to the party, everyone else went to sleep because actually, being old, hardworking students we've had a knackering term of working hard and could rather go for a solid 8 hours of sleep.

Wake up in the morning, Edd and Si fix some bacon sandwich things in some frying pans, and we head off to the hall again.

Game 6 v REHAB: 4-5
Nuts. We started really well, took a few points clear at 4-2. And then got sloppy, and they scored with a final knife into the zone with a second left.

~*temporary intermission*~

It's important to bear in mind at this point some key points about me, as pointed out by Our Friends From York:
a) I'm nice.
b) I'm wonderful but strange.

~*end of the temporary intermission*~

Ahem.

Game 7 v Some Team (that was actually their name): 4-5
Poorest performance of the weekend. Very little structure, Zone was poor, Man was worse. We struggled to work the disc well and got frustrated. Leaves us in the Plate quarterfinals.

Game 8 v Random Fling: 6-5 (plate quarter)

Close, but we pulled it out at the end*, so not too much like most recent Fling games (where we returned their Indoor Regionals win with the pleasant win Outdoors).
*Someone else can insert the euphamism here. I've left it open.

Game 9 v Special Leeds: 4-8 (plate Semi)
They had a very tall guy called Rob and mostly more athleticism than us, and we struggled to make any real inroads. Didn't do too much wrong, but they did even less wrong. It's weird to play a game where you realise that there's just not much more you can do, but it happens. They had their game (which involved Rob and high discs), and unless the disc was wrong or he dropped it, there was little we could do.

Game 10 v Some Team (again): 8-6 (final)
They put it over the top a lot, and we couldn't get on top of them. We played much better then the first time this morning, but couldn't really have got past them. Final place: 12th.

Our Spirit vote went to Danger! High Voltage, who won Spirit overall.
MVP went to Gez.

Well, that's the writeup.

Have yourselves a very merry Christmas all, and don't forget the true meaning; the birth of the Easter Bunny.

Hahaha. No, but really. It's actually the anniversary of the elves' emancipation.

Hahaha. No, but really.
