Birmingham Indoor Warmup 2007
Hey guys thanks for a fantastic weekend... absolutely brilliant way for me to start my indoor captaincy... fantastic! Everyone did awesomely and always gave a 110% effort.. well done!
(thanks also to edd for the note taking for this report!)
We got there early as buggery on saturday morning.. ending up being the first team to arrive (and annoyingly one of the last to leave) but gave us plenty of time to get our heads together and have a chuck around before the first game... both for us.. and the first game of the tourny too.
Game 1: Flange 9 - Jesters 1
Flange did what we expected them to do.. first game and little confidence ment we took a bit of a battering. They threw lots of big knives and just walted through. We Got 1! and were unlucky not to get another that may or may not have hit the wall before/release and we could possibly have had a couple more but all in all it was a good warm up.
Game 2: Bears 5 - Jesters 4
We should have drawn this game but we were unaware of the stupid rule of deducting a point if the disc went through an annex into another room... all things considered though.. this is where we started to step up our game... we expected to get destroyed but we played through to the very end.. almost scoring a last second huck! They were strong and precise but we held our cool and almost took them.
Game 3: Addicted 2 Love 3 - Jesters 5
YEAH JESTERS.. COME BACK ON! Again.. we actually scored 6 but silly aforementioned rule ment we lost a point again. Not to mention that a nice easy score for them occured when Joe unleashed a full-force pull at the back of Sams head.. dropping it only 2 feet from our line! Nevertheless, we forced well and handled fluently... SWEET!
Lunch at Yates (stupid smart dress code violated)
Game 4: UBU1 2 - Jesters 7
Ditto. We again threw a brilliant zone D.. they had nothing to retaliate. Awesome!
Game 5: Haze 1 - Jesters 6
Our zone, it turns out, is bloody good! We had a walk through with this one.. huge determination and excellent fluidity made this one a treat... especially for pete who after 5 years of playing.. has finally beaten HAZE. Great way to go through to the next day.
HOME TIME! Same, Tom, Steph and Ben head back to Leicester. Everyone else goes to Kidderminster to indulge in England victory role! (ya we were un-partying, unsociable people)
SUNDAY
Game 6: UBU2 2 - Jesters 8
Not much to say.. we stormed it.. we took it to them.. and as a much lower seed.. they didnt compare. Hard fought but ultimately.. we claimed.
Game 7 (Quarter Final): Aye Aye 3 - Jesters 5
We expected a tough game and it was awesome. Joel and Joe took down so many discs over people. Awesome Zone. Actually Awesome. Great spirit and great team. Pleasure to play.
Game 8 (Semi Final): Flange 11 - Jesters 5
Dirty Horrible Cheats (Pitch length scoobers and knives should not be allowed). We had a truly solid Zone which they struggled with. Score was tied for ages, we went ahead to 5-4 with only 8 minutes to go,
but we got sloppy on O and as such couldnt use our zone any more and were punished for it. turnovers into scores. They used their disc skills against us and clamied the victory. For the most part... one of the most hard fought Jesters game weve ever seen.
Game 9 (Placings): Uriel 5 - Jesters 12
SSSSWWWEEEEEETTT! We walked past (and over) their poachy zone and held them up entirely on ours. Not a team expecting to lose and as such werent a happy bunch but we deserved this one. The change from first game to this was just incredible. Excellent performance from everyone.. we have points to take away for training but this was
truly fantastic!
Final Position: 3rd.. Highest Placing University Team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the futures bright, the future's black and white.
MVP: Joel - Excellent play, brilliant effort and a Jester at heart! Awesome grabs/handling and flowing play. Swwwwweeeeettt.
